Session: Open Source BPM Comparison
Every company has business processes that are candidates for automation. Business processes have a workflow that may involve systems, humans and/or both. As workflow complexity and integration requirements increase, it is easier to automate these workflows visually in models than in code. Open source Business Product Management (BPM) products solve this by providing a platform for business and technology resources to create, execute and manage business processes while using an industry standard Business Process Modeling Notation (BPMN). Open source BPM products have been on a journey since the early 2000’s starting with jBPM, followed by Activiti, Camunda and Flowable. Over time they have evolved to adapt to the cloud and microservice architectures while extending their capability set to compete with commercial products. Each one of the four products have similarities and differences across their capability set, open source model/licensing, and community activity. In this talk we will cover:
- An overview of open source BPM and the history
- Compare and contrast jBPM, Activiti, Camunda and Flowable open source BPM products highlighting the key differentiators between them to help you make a decision on which one to use in your next project
- Provide our insights on where we think open source BPM is going next
