Session: How to Make Your Software Terrible to Package

Look, anyone can make open source software, you just need to toss it into GitHub and never think about it again, right? But what if you want to actually make it difficult to package up and be included as part of a Linux distribution?

Okay, so maybe most projects don’t intend for their software to be hard to be packaged and redistributed, but there are a lot of decisions that open source software projects make which lead to this outcome.

As a Fedora packager, I’ve seen (and packaged) a lot of weird things, and I have the scars to prove it. In this session, I’ll suggest some things that you can do for your project to make it more friendly for Linux distributions.
