Session: Don’t Create the 15th Standard. Learn to Collaborate

So you’re building a new internal service that will power several large customer-facing products but none of the available standards quite meet your needs. What do you do? You create a new one, of course! No, wait. There’s a better way. During this talk you’ll learn how AWS worked with the Eclipse Foundation to extend the open source Devfile specification for defining containerized development environments. Through this collaboration we added support for more use cases and simplified the experience of authoring DevFiles. Customers can now re-use their existing DevFile environment specifications to try out Amazon CodeCatalyst before deciding if it meets their needs. And AWS engineers are able to reference public support channels (such as StackOverflow) to spend more time building the core service and less time wrestling with a proprietary specification.
