Open October: Intuit’s Open Sourcerors Embrace Open Source Culture with All Things Open and Hacktoberfest
Intuit is excited to present at the upcoming All Things Open conference. From big data to accessible web applications, Intuit technologists will showcase their expertise in open-source technology and demonstrate how it can drive innovation and bring positive change.
- New to open source and not sure where to start? Join Neha Giri for a hands-on experience on how to make your first open-source contributions!
- Interested in creating web applications that are usable by everyone? Explore the best practices for building accessible web applications with Karen Chin.
- Feeling like the number of your GraphQL microservices is growing beyond your control? Lucy Shen and Ashpak Shaikh will show you how graph-quilt, an open-source Java library that provides recursive schema stitching and Apollo Federation-style schema composition, can simplify your data orchestration needs.
- For those looking to build observable distributed systems leveraging open-source technologies: Shweta Sharma will introduce the different aspects of observability and how open-source solutions can help you identify and resolve observability issues.
- And if you are searching for scalable streaming AIOps solutions on Kubernetes, join Vigith Maurice and Derek Wang as they share their experience building a large-scale AIOps platform with open-source technologies.
Intuit’s dedication to open source continues beyond the conference halls. With Hacktoberfest 2023 around the corner, Intuit’s open source champions (the “open sourcerors”) are gathering across the company to celebrate open-source culture.
Taking place every year in October, the month-long Hacktoberfest is designed to help open source enthusiasts build relationships, learn new skills, and drive technological progress by contributing to meaningful open-source projects. Whether you’re a seasoned developer or just getting started, Hacktoberfest offers a range of projects that fit every skill level. Participants can choose from thousands of open-source projects, make contributions, and earn rewards for their hard work. In 2022, the first 40,000 participants (maintainers and contributors) who completed Hacktoberfest were eligible for one of two prizes: a tree planted in their name, or the Hacktoberfest 2022 t-shirt.
Intuit celebrated last year’s Hacktoberfest with workshops for first-time contributors, maintainer lightning talks, and of course, snacks, swag, and boba. Together, the open sourcerors made 400+ contributions, with 40% contributions by women or non-binary people (self-identified). Hacktoberfest is the perfect opportunity to connect with other open source enthusiasts, expand your knowledge, and contribute to something that makes a real difference. So join us this year and be a part of the movement that’s driving tech innovation forward.
